All cause discomfort and pain and some can kill. Each year in the UK, more than 4 million people consult their doctors about such problems - 500 000 go into hospital and about 60 000 die of these diseases. The Digestive Disorders Foundation (Suffolk) raise money in Suffolk to help Suffolk hospitals in the research, treatment, cure and prevention of these many painful disorders and diseases. We give grants to relevant medical staff to enable them to go on courses and buy books to help them keep abreast of developments in their specialised field. We have virtually no administrative expenses; all our fundraising work is done by dedicated volunteers and we have no premises to maintain. About 92p in every pound we raise, goes to the Gastroenterology Department at The Ipswich Hospital. We organise local fundraising activities such as concerts, social functions, an annual draw and street and store collections, in addition to producing a regular newsletter reporting on past events and highlighting future events and activities.
